Bike Lanes Are In!

Bike Lane Sign

Have you seen the new bike lanes?

One of them runs up E. Colvin St. from Garfield Ave. (just east of State St.) all the way up past Manley Field House. The striping that was painted last year from Comstock Ave to the intersection before Nottingham Rd. (by the P&C) was repainted.

A bike lane also leaves Colvin going north on Lancaster AveMeadowbrook Bike Lane. for one block, then turning east onto Meadowbrook Drive. It continues on Meadowbrook all the way to Hurlburt Ave, one block before Nottingham High School, turning left on Hurlburt for the short block up to E. Genesee St.

The striping went in last week, followed by painted bicycle icons and directional arrows, and recently signage has been added. It seems that new signs are being added daily.

If you haven’t seen them, go check them out… on your bike, of course!
What’s Next ?

Mayer Driscoll’s office says there will be some form of bicycle signage improvement on Euclid Ave, from Westcott St. to Comstock Ave…. probably coming in the Spring, but perhaps this Fall if the weather holds out. It’s a difficult area to work with, given the parking and the width of the road. We’re not exactly sure what the current plan is… but we’ll let you know when we know.

And… New York State DOT will restripe East Genesee St., from East Ave. to the DeWitt line, with one traffic lane in each direction, a center turn lane, and bike lanes on both sides. The word is that the restriping is set for the next construction season, which means sometime from spring through the fall of 2007.
